Premise[]
While falling back into familiar patterns, Joe gets caught up in an unfortunate game as everyone's plans go up in flames.
Plot[]
Joe deduces Kate is responsible for Gemma’s murder, and that she has been manipulating him but she denies it. He asks why she isn't calling for help if she didn’t do it, and she said she doesn’t want her father’s guards to be alerted. She asserts that the situation doesn’t look good for him either at this point. He agrees to help her hide the murder until they can figure something else out.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group get steadily more drunk and drugged up, raging about the the peasant masses and the Eat the Rich killer. Joe and Kate move the body to into a trunk just in time as Phoebe bursts in, upset over seeing a close interaction between her boyfriend Adam and a male staff member. She sits down on the trunk in front of them as she describes her concerns. Hoping to get rid of her as quickly as possible, Joe proposes maybe it is something Adam is embarrassed to share with her, a kink, as she concludes. She wants to push for further information, but Kate insists she leave so that she and “Johnathon” can have sex.
Once she’s gone, the two of them attempt to lift the trunk and move it out of the house, but the body falls through the bottom and they are forced to come up with another plan. They resort to dropping the body out the window. Once they get it moved, Kate quickly pulls a knife on Joe, demanding to know how he is so skilled in disposing of a body. He explains that when he found her with Gemma’s body, he knew either she had done it, or she was being framed- as someone had tried to do to him. He confesses to having found Malcolm’s body in his home and covering it up because he knew nobody would believe him. He tells her he has been receiving messages with threats to ensure his silence. Joe says he was married to a spoiled, rich woman who did terrible things. That he had stuck it out too long but finally had to run away leaving everything behind, including his son.
Back in the house, Phoebe confronts Adam about the kink he is hiding from her, eventually drawing it out of him and attempting to indulge him and feel like she is able to fulfill him. When she realizes that isn’t something she will be able to do and that he does not see himself as her equal, she ends things between them- leaving him distraught.
Kate and Joe gather supplies to clean the evidence of murder in her bedroom. She realizes she is missing her bracelet with her name engraved on it, and it must have come off at some point while they were moving the body. Joe quickly hurries out to look for it while she takes the supplies to her room. Phoebe is there when she arrives, confused and horrified by the scene.
Adam angrily drinks and drugs himself into a rage, blaming Joe for his problems with Phoebe. Roald encourages this and adds to it. Just then, a servant approaches to inform him that he saw “Mr. Moore” heading outside. Seeing this as his opportunity to get Kate alone, he goes up to her room and over hears her explaining to Phoebe what had happened and how Joe had helped, telling her he was out looking for her bracelet then to keep her from being implicated. They agree to send the staff away and bring in the security, only telling them Gemma is missing so they are able to protect them, but not the details and extent that could be relayed to Kate’s father.
Roald sneaks up on Joe with his rifle, catching him red handed with Gemma’s body. He parades him into the home at gunpoint, presenting him to the rest of the group excluding Kate and Phoebe, as the Eat the Rich killer. He explains that he found him with Gemma’s body and that Kate and Phoebe were already sending away the staff and summoning the security team. Joe protests his innocence, insisting that Kate and Phoebe would vouch for him. Roald contends that the murders began the same night he came into their lives, the same night Malcolm disappeared. He points out he was the only one absent when Simon died, and that Gemma had been taunting and insulting him at dinner before she was murdered. Adam jumps in, raging at Joe about sabotaging his relationship with Phoebe.
Roald suggests they handle the situation themselves, adding that he is the favorite nephew of a high powered judge who would ensure he got off for ending the life of a murderer who was harming his close friends.
Roald readies to shoot Joe, but is told not to do so in the drawing room. Joe insists they talk to Phoebe and Kate. The mention of Phoebe’s name sends Adam into a frenzie and he tackles Joe. Joe responds and knocks Adam unconscious, then takes off running out of the house.
Roald announces he is going peasant hunting, giving him a slight head start before chasing after with his rifle.
Shots ring out as Joe weaves in and out of the trees.
Pheobe and Kate, accompanied by 2 guards finally rejoin the others, finding Adam still unconscious on the floor. They are informed that Joe/Johnathan attacked him because he is the Eat the Rich killer, and Roald had gone into the woods to kill him. Kate orders the guards to go and stop them.
Joe hides, sneaking up behind his hunter while he rambles about his superiority. He tackles him to the ground and strangles him, bashing his head until passes out. As he rolls over relieved, Rhys approaches, retrieving Roald’s gun and knocking Joe out with it.
He awakes chained, next to Roald, in a secret basement of the estate, realizing the mysterious murderer was Rhys all along. Rhys proposes that the two of them pin all the murders on Roald. He instructs Joe to kill him, stating that he would take care of the rest. Joe plays along, thanking him for intervening and telling him he had been looking forward to meeting. Rhys leaves, refusing to unchain him, insisting he be done before he returns.
When Rhys comes back to find Roald still living and Joe attempting to escape his chains, he gets angry. Joe insists he can’t kill a man while chained to a pillar, but Rhys calls him out as a phony. He tells him if he is clever enough to get himself free, he would see him in London, kicking over a lamp and igniting a fire in the room as he left.
Joe frantically tries to free himself as the fire rages, filling the house above with smoke. Roald wakes in a panic and attempts to free himself also. Joe breaks free and, after contemplating it a moment, goes back to free Roald. They escape the from the basement with Kate’s help and hurry away from the house as it collapses in flames.
Back in London, Joe watches a news presentation about the events. Kate comes to his door and asks him to accompany her for a drink, but he is hesitant to further their relationship and declines.
He returns his attention to the TV, catching a promotional interview of Rhys discussing the Eat the Rich killer and officially announcing his run for mayor of London.
