―Henderson to Joe Goldberg

Joshua Bunter[2], who goes by the stage name Henderson and often referred to as Hendy is a character in the television series YOU. He is portrayed by Chris D'Elia.

Charming, funny, and manipulating, Henderson is a famous comedian that harbors a dark secret. He is initially presented as being kind and charitable, giving Joe a vouch for free treatment at a medical center and prematurely shutting down his own party so Forty Quinn would feel better about leaving. Despite the positive exterior, it is rumored that he has an appetite for underage girls. It is revealed that he tricks them into believing they have a friendship and trusting him before drugging them and sexually assaulting them. He takes pictures of them while they are unconscious and hides the pictures in a secret compartment in his hidden sex room.

He strikes up a friendship with Ellie Alves, with whom he manipulates into getting closer with him under the guise of an internship. Ellie's sister, Delilah Alves, is one of Henderson's many victims, and she spends years trying to take him down.

Biography[]

Season 2[]

Just the Tip[]

Henderson is first seen in a flashback when Joe Goldberg first arrives in Los Angeles. Henderson is recognized by a fan who asks him for a photo which he obliges. Others quickly begin to recognize him, and the public soon crowds him.

Henderson encounters both Delilah and Joe at a party and strikes up a brief conversation with them. He flirts with Delilah, much to her annoyance. He is introduced to Joe by Delilah and inquires about Joe's pinky finger. Henderson tells Joe to tell Dr. Daniel at St. Henry's Medical Center that he is a friend of Hendy to receive free treatment.

What Are Friends For?[]

Henderson makes a surprise guest appearance at Harold Night and attends the after party.

After the night ends, he offers Ellie Alves a ride home, which she rejects. Henderson gives her a kiss on the cheek and leaves.

Although the scene is not shown, Henderson hosts a party where one of his managers brings edibles. Ellie accidentally eats an edible and Henderson blames one of his managers for bringing an edible. Afterwards, he pays for Ellie's ride home.

Some time later, Henderson hosts a party that Forty and Joe attend. Henderson calms down a intoxicated Forty and tanks his own party to make Forty feel better about leaving. Henderson seemingly forgives Forty for his behavior prior to his rehab stints. Henderson recognizes Joe at his party and they have a brief conversation talking about Ellie.

The Good, The Bad & The Hendy[]

Henderson opens the door to Ellie, telling her that the person bringing the film print didn't show so the screening is cancelled. Ellie is adamant that she stays, as she wanted to show him her short film anyway. Henderson pretends to be uncomfortable at the idea of staying alone at his house with Ellie, but still lets her in.

Henderson and Ellie sit on the couch as he praises her short film. He prepares to end the night, continuing to manipulate Ellie into thinking that she's safe and choosing to be there. Ellie asks to pitch another one of her film ideas, to which Henderson obliges. Before she begins, he says that he needs a drink and offers to get her juice. Out of Ellie's sight, he pours juice and puts several drops of a date-rape drug into it. Unaware that Joe is inside of his house, he is distracted by a glass thrown by the intruder, which he believes is his cat. He takes the drinks back to Ellie but is knocked out himself.

Henderson is awoken by Joe, bound to a chair and blindfolded inside of his secret room. Henderson screams for help, to which Joe replies that the room is soundproof, and that Henderson should know as such. Henderson lies to Joe, saying that the room is just for his fetishes and that it isn't illegal. Joe brings up Henderson's photos, and he lies, saying that he's holding them for a friend. After he begins getting cut by Joe, Henderson confesses that they're his, but justifies it by saying he never touched them and they don't remember.

Henderson has his blindfold taken off and confesses to his crimes. However, he then switches to a story of how he was sexually abused by his stepdad when he was 9 years old, and how he was ignored by his mother when he told her. Henderson asks if the same thing happened to Joe, which is why he's doing this. Joe takes the mask off and gets in Henderson's face, who recognizes him from the party. Joe turns away and Henderson breaks loose, knocking Joe to the ground and running for the stairs.

Henderson tries to break free from Joe's grasp but is shoved down the stairs, hitting his head on the wall, killing him instantly.
