Premise[]
A ritzy weekend getaway doubles as a chance for Joe to hunt down his elusive stalker. Without cell service or Wi-Fi, Joe makes a key connection.
Plot[]
Joe is questioned again by the police, who found his earlier information helpful. Phoebe invites Joe to accompany the group to her remote house in the country and insists on his attendance.
As he settles into his room, a note simply reading “portrait room” is slid under the door. Thinking it may be from the killer, he retrieves a weapon hid within a book in his bags and hurriedly sneaks to meet them. Instead, he is greeted by a lingerie clad Phoebe in a room full of lit candles molded in the shape of her prior lovers’ appendages. She quickly initiates a sexual interaction and is hurt and embarrassed when he rejects her. He insists he doesn’t feel comfortable since she has a boyfriend, and she opines that she doesn’t feel wanted by Adam. He comforts her, insisting that Adam worships her and whatever issues he is having may have nothing to do with her. This seems to make her hopeful, and she thanks him, asking him not to mention the encounter.
Joe is disgusted by the antics of some of the elite group members towards the help staff, humiliating them for their enjoyment, and notices Kate is quite off put also.
Adam requests Joe’s company, asking for advice about possibly marrying Phoebe and confesses some of his concerns. Adam also discloses to Joe that it was Roald who had suggested he go to the country house with them, which peaks Joe’s suspicion of Roald. He sneaks into his room to investigate where he finds excessively tidy and organized personal belongings, as well as inappropriate and seemingly obsessive photos of Kate on his camera.
Later, Roald invites Joe on a hunt, he agrees to get a feel of rather or not Roald is the killer. Once in the woods, Roald becomes more aggressive. He discloses that he and Kate had met at boarding school in Rhode Island as teens when her mother, Greta, a model, slit her wrists over a man and was hospitalized. Roald comments on his dislike for Malcolm and Simon and their effects on Kate’s life. “Lucky for her, they seem to wind up dead.” he quips, aiming his rifle at Joe’s head from behind. Just then, Kate approaches, shooting her gun to get their attention. She sends Joe away and scolds Roald.
Back in their adjoining rooms, Kate and Joe have another go before dinner.
The meal attendees grow consistently more obnoxious as the evening goes on, bringing Joe into their jokes and commentary about the peasants and the killer. When Kate interjects, Roald tears into her accusing her of pretending she isn’t one of them.
A Clue style murder mystery game is initiated, with guests encouraged to try to figure out who Pheobe’s fictitious killer. Uninterested, Kate and Joe separate from the group and she confesses to him that her father is a man named Tom Lockwood, an activist investor and one of the most powerful men on the planet who makes exuberant amounts of money in shady ways that hurt a lot of people. She tells him she hasn’t spoken to him since she was 20, but the security guards who accompanied them to the estate were sent by him due to the murders. Joe finds himself falling for her.
Joe returns to Roald’s room hoping to find more evidence and is attacked by Roald and pushed out of a window, landing on a bush below.
As he hobbles back to the house, he hears the scream of a woman and rushes in. As the rest of the party guests carry on as usual, he searches the house for Kate- finding her in her room, over the bloody body of Gemma, a knife in her hands.
